Suspect taken into custody after standoff in Boonville

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F SWAT, Cooper County Sheriff's Department, and Boonville PD responded to a potential hostage situation just before 7 p.m.

Law enforcement in the area had a large area blocked off around Locust and 7th in Boonville.

An ABC 17 News crew on scene reported law enforcement was talking with someone on a blow horn and shining lights on a house when they arrived.

At 7:10, while SWAT members were en route, a suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Daniel Thomas is a neighbor in the area who was watching the incident.

“When the state police negotiator passed by and introduced himself he said, ‘There’s no need for me now. He’s right over there being arrested right now,'" Thomas said.

Thomas said he was talking to police at the scene.

“The male occupant in the apartment was repeated having an assault rifle and that he was holding a female that he had beaten up," Thomas said.

He did not see a woman leave the house, but a different neighbor said she saw a woman leave the residence who did not look hurt.
