HIGBEE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Voters in Higbee earlier this month approved a $1 million bond issue for its fire protection district, but due to a clerical error, the wrong total was approved, according to a Wednesday press release from the Higbee Area Fire Protection District.

Nearly 80% of voters on Aug. 6 approved a proposition that allowed the district to buy essential equipment. According to an email from Fire Chief Joe Roberts, the Board of the Higbee Area Fire Protection District approved a $1,620,000 bond issue to appear on the ballot, but the ballot language only included $1 million.

The remaining $620,000 is expected to appear on the November ballot for voter approval.

“Please note that we are not requesting any additional funds; we are simply seeking to obtain the original amount that was proposed. If approved, the additional $620,000 will not change the expected and communicated impact to your tax obligations,” the press release says. “We regret the oversight and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve this matter.”
