COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An early morning fire destroyed an apartment building in Randolph County's county seat early Thursday.

The fire caused the building at Main and Depot streets in Huntsville to collapse after firefighters got the call around 3 a.m., Westran Fire Protection District Chief Tony Bell said. The building had four apartment units and everyone inside got out safely before the collapse, he said.

The collapsed building is visible in photos from the scene, where firefighters worked in frigid conditions for several hours. The cold meant firefighters had to fight hypothermia and trucks getting too cold, the fire district said in a Facebook post.

The state fire marshal in investigating, the fire district said.

The Moberly Fire Department lent a tower truck to the effort to get the fire under control, the district said.
