Moberly implements extra precautions as snow and dangerous temperatures hit Randolph County
MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Snow and dangerous temperatures expected to fall into the single digits across Randolph County on Friday forced the City of Moberly to take some extra precautions.
By Friday, patchy blowing snow swept across the city. Temperatures hit a low of 13 degrees with wind chills values dipping down to minus-6 degrees by 7 pm.
On Friday, Moberly City Hall and other city administrative offices closed its doors at 3 p.m., due to the predicted inclement weather and challenged road conditions, the city announced online.
The city also announced on its social media that waste management was forced to cut its routes short at 3 p.m. Because of this, waste management crews still need to make 73 stops. Those routes are expected to be picked up on Monday.
Even before the snow rolled in, city officials began making preparations. On Thursday, the city announced on Facebook that it would be moving all vehicles that were parked certain the streets to allow crews to try and clear any remaining snow and ice that had accumulated from Monday and Tuesday’s snow storm.
The areas affected included Rollins Street from Johnson Street to College Ave, Fisk Ave from Park Drive to Holman Street, and South Williams from St Pius Catholic Church to Tara Park. The city warned that any vehicles left on the street after 11 am would be moved to help make snow removal more efficient.
The Missouri Department of Transportation reported that the majority of the county was covered in snow and ice, including Highway 63. As of 7:50 p.m., Highway 3 in Randolph County is closed from roadway damage, according to the map, while Highway 63 was covered and Highway 24 was partly covered.
