COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No deaths were reported in 44 traffic crashes over the New Year’s holiday counting period, according to a Thursday press release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

MSHP wrote that statistics could be updated “if late deaths occur, or if other departments report fatal traffic crashes.” MSHP said nine deaths were reported last year. The New Year’s counting period lasted from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

There were 21 crash injuries and 50 DWI arrests made, the release says. MSHP also stated that there were no drownings and boating fatalities.

Last year’s counting period had 821 traffic crashes and 293 injuries, according to previous reporting.
