Highway Patrol reports four holiday highway deaths including Boone County crash
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers worked four deadly crash scenes over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period including one in Boone County.
The patrol reported deaths on highways in eastern, southwest and southern Missouri in its initial report on holiday traffic statistics released Tuesday. The report was later revised to include a deadly crash Saturday on Interstate 70 in western Boone County that led to standstill traffic.
A 47-year-old Columbia man died in the crash at the 121-mile marker of westbound I-70. The man's vehicle slid on the ice and went off the road, hitting a rock bluff and overturning, the patrol reported. The man was thrown from the vehicle after it rolled back onto the road. The man was then run over by a second vehicle, the patrol says.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was covered in snow and ice at the time of the crash and snow was still falling. More than 3 inches would be measured in Columbia before the snow stopped later Saturday.
Troopers were called to 362 crashes with 120 injuries between 6 p.m. Wednesday to midnight Sunday, according to the news release. Troopers made 106 DWI arrests.
Most of those numbers were down from 2023, when troopers worked 431 crashes with four deaths. Other law enforcement agencies worked five other deadly crashes that year.
This year's deadly crashes happened Wednesday in southwest Missouri's Barry County, Friday in eastern Missouri's Lincoln County and Sunday in southern Missouri's Oregon County.
The patrol reported no boating crashes, arrests or drownings.
