Deer bones found during firefighter demonstration for Camdenton school
CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
Camden County detectives on Wednesday found deer bones in a vehicle that was being used for a fire department extrication demonstration, a Thursday press release says.
The release says that detectives responded to the Lake Career Technical Center after Mid-County Fire Protection firefighters found bones in a vehicle they were using for the demonstration for Camdenton R-3 school district students.
LCTC staff moved students away from the area so officials could work, the release says. Detectives consulted with Southwest Forensics Medical Examiner investigators and Missouri Department of Conservation biologists to determine the bones came from deer, the release says.
“The sheriff’s office responds to calls concerning found bones regularly. In most cases the bones turn out to be from a deer or some other animal. We encourage anyone who finds bones that are not obviously animal in origin to contact our office or the Missouri Department of Conservation,” the release says.
The Camdenton R-3 School District wrote a statement on its social media describing the response to the bones being found.
“Thank you to the Mid-County Fire Department for providing a learning opportunity for our students at Lake Career and Technical Center by leading a Vehicle Extrication Demonstration yesterday! During the demonstration, it was discovered that one of the vehicles contained bones of an unknown origin. Students were immediately removed from the area, and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded. Camden County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement, confirming the bones are those of a deer,” the post says.
