Missouri can expect lower gas prices Memorial Day weekend
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A little over 37 million people are expected to be traveling by vehicle for Memorial Day Weekend, and AAA says those travelers can expect to see a slight decline in fuel prices.
AAA also says more people are taking other modes of transportation this holiday, like buses and trains. These travelers are expected to total nearly two million people which is about a 21% increase compared to 2022.
The average price for a gallon of unleaded fuel in the Missouri is about $3.22, which is almost a dollar less than 2022 Memorial Day Weekend with a gallon of unleaded fuel at $4.18, according to AAA data.
The over 37 million people that are driving a vehicle for the holiday is a 6% increase compared to 2022. AAA also says despite the lower prices at the pump this weekend, travel by vehicle this holiday will be shy of pre-pandemic numbers by about 500,000 travelers.
Now if you are traveling out of Missouri this holiday, you can expect to see an average unleaded fuel price of $3.57 which is about $1.03 less than Memoria Day Weekend 2022.
If you're looking for more savings on fuel, AAA says to simply, slow down and drive the speed limit. Also when driving in town, AAA says to adjust your speed to “time” the traffic lights to reduce repeated braking and acceleration that consume additional fuel.
It is also a good idea to use cruise control in appropriate weather to help maintain a constant speed and save fuel, AAA says.
