Missouri man charged with murder in chase that killed woman

HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say an eastern Missouri man has been charged with murder and nearly two dozen other counts after the death of a woman who was in a car he hit while fleeing police last month.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 34-year-old Dustin Scott Fernow is charged with second-degree murder, property damage, resisting arrest, 10 counts of armed criminal action and 10 counts of assault.

Police say Fernow led them on a chase through Arnold on Sept. 2, including on the grounds of a school, hitting several police cars and other vehicles.

Prosecutors say a passenger in one of those cars, Carroll Politte, died from her injuries on Saturday.
