Mexico man injured after being hit by car during verbal dispute

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Sunday afternoon, Mexico Public Safety Department responded to a disturbance in the 1600 block of north Clark St. after a man is hit by a vehicle.

According to a release by Mexico Public Safety, this was an ongoing domestic dispute.

According to the probable cause statement, Brent Sampson got into an argument with someone and left the scene of the dispute with his daughters in the car. According to court records, Sampson then allegedly hit a person that had just shown up as Sampson was leaving.

According to officials, Sampson left the area but later contacted law enforcement at a different location to give his statement.

Sampson was arrested and taken to the Audrain County Jail for Assault 2nd degree.

The Audrain Ambulance District took the victim to a local hospital where he was admitted for treatment of a broken wrist, difficulty breathing and abrasions.

According to online court records, Sampson is charged with armed criminal action, 1st-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

No bond was issued to Sampson.

Sampson's next court date is Tuesday at 10 .m.
