MoDOT to close Westbound lanes of US 54 next week
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
On July 15, the Missouri Department of Transportation will have the Westbound lanes of US 54 closed from the south side of the Missouri River Bridge, to just South of the US 50 overpass.
According to a press release from the Jefferson City Police Department, the Westbound traffic will be diverted to the Eastbound lanes. There will be only one lane in each direction for the duration of this stage of the project, the release states.
In order to reduce delays and crashes the department is asking drivers to:
- Be patient and adjust travel times
- Reduce speed
- Pay attention to the road
- Keep a safe distance between vehicles
In the event of a crash, the department asks that drivers call 911.
If the vehicle can still be driven, the department states people should go to the following locations:
- Eastbound traffic within the work zone should move to the Route W exit, North of the Missouri River Bridge
- Westbound traffic should move to the Business 50 Missouri Blvd. exit and find the nearest parking lot
- Those involved in a crash South of the Business 50 Missouri Blvd. exit should drive to the Jefferson St / Stadium Blvd. exit and find the nearest parking lot.
The department also states those with a vehicle that cannot be driven should remain in the vehicle.
If the vehicle is unsafe to remain in, the department asks that drivers move to the front, which is a safe location.
