JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Bird scooters will soon leave Jefferson City, according to a press release from the city.

The release states that the city was notified by Bird on Sunday that the company would be ending business in Jefferson City. The city it wasn’t notified when the removal of scooters would begin, the release states.

The release says Bird made the decision to remove the scooters after “internal prioritization efforts in their 2024 planning led them to not seeing an immediate path to support their near term requirements for building an enduring business in Jefferson City.”

The city had discussed ending its agreement with Bird Rides, Inc. last summer, according to previous reporting. The city entered its agreement with the company in 2021.

According to previous reporting, in 2022, Bird paid the city $3,308.25 in business license fees, based on a 25-cents-per-ride business license fee.
