COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mid-Missouri residents joined the University of Missouri campus community Friday afternoon for the MU Remembers Ceremony.

The event -- held at 4 p.m. at Jesse Hall -- is an annual wreath-laying ceremony to remember the lives of students, faculty and staff that have passed away during this past year.

Students Hallie Phillips and Samuel Clemons were among the 23 people honored at Friday's event.

Phillips, a 20-year old student, was allegedly shot by her boyfriend in November, according to court documents.

Clemons' body was found dead in January in a fire pit in the backyard of a north Columbia home. Police say Clemons was stabbed before being thrown into a fire pit.
