Columbia Board of Education set to vote on pay increases for all employees

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Board of Education is set to vote Monday night on the finalized 2022-23 school year budget.

The school board plans to use more than $7 million to increase all employees' salaries. On June 8, board members shared details about the budget at a hearing. Columbia Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Heather McArthur said the funds for the raises make up about 80 percent of the budget.

The school district hopes the raises will keep current workers and attract qualified staff with competitive base wages.

Breakdown of the pay increases:

  • Teachers - $1,200 base pay increase
  • Coaches and Trainers - $1,250 base pay increase
  • Counselors and Social Workers - $1,000 base pay increase
  • Nurses - $700 base pay increase
  • Therapists - $900 base pay increase
  • Custodians - $1.15 per hour increase

With the above positions included, employees in 27 different departments will get pay increases, according to budget documents.

The board of education also plans to talk about an application for a state grant to help Afghan refugees and an update on safety and security.

The Columbia Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
