Multiple people hurt in capsizings at Lake of the Ozarks over Memorial Day weekend

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to several incidents on the water of the Lake of the Ozarks over the Memorial Day weekend.

Sunday incidents

At 4:40 p.m. Sunday, troopers were called to the 5.8-mile marker of the Osage Arm after a man's Sea Doo, a jet ski, capsized.

The online incident report shows Stephen Dreyer, 40, was turning slowly to pull a device he was towing in the other direction. His Sea Doo ended up capsizing in the Cornett Branch Cove.

Troopers say the loose tow rope wrapped around Dreyer, who was wearing a life vest at the time.

A helicopter flew Dreyer to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

A short time later, a boat also capsized injuring two 13-year-olds and a man.

Troop F posted the photos below of the incident on Twitter.

MSHP's incident report says Derrick Grigsby, 41, was driving the boat too fast when it capsized. All three people on board were thrown off the boat.

Grigsby and one of the teens were moderately injured. EMS crews took them to Lake Regional Hospital. The other teen had minor injuries and refused treatment.

Both teens were wearing life vests at the time of the incident.

Earlier in the day, MSHP reported that two people were moderately injured in separate incidents when they hit rough water. The first happened at 10:40 a.m. on a Sea Doo at the 8.8-mile marker of the Osage Arm. The second incident involved a boat and happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the 4.8 mile-marker of the Grand Glaize Arm.

Saturday incidents

At noon on Saturday, troopers were called to the 8.6-mile marker of the Lake's Main Channel in Camden County.

According to the incident report, a boat swamped when it was pushing a dock and encountered rough water. A woman on the boat reported minor injuries.

Several hours later, two teens suffered minor injuries in a Sea Doo crash in Morgan County.

MSHP's incident report says three people were riding two jet skis in the Jobson Hollow Cove when one lost control and crashed into the other.

Troopers reported that everyone was wearing a life vest when it happened around 7:30 p.m.
