COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three Rivers Electric Cooperative is asking its customers to conserve energy after the recent cold spell made its grid experience “maximum load.”

The cooperative – which serves Cole, Maries, Miller, Gasconade, Osage and Moniteau counties – asked its customers on social media Thursday to try to conserve energy from 6-10 a.m. Friday. Measures consumers can do include lowering their thermostats a few degrees and turning off all nonessential devices in their home.

“We need your help! Associated Electric Cooperative, our wholesale power generator, is requesting members conserve energy due to extreme winter weather and maximum load on our electric grid. To help safeguard the grid, please conserve energy Friday from 6 AM-10 AM by lowering your thermostat a few degrees and turning off any non-essential electric devices. By taking small steps to save energy together, we all can make a big difference,” the post says.

Boone Electric Cooperative asked its customers to do the same on Thursday morning.
