JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

First responders will partake in an emergency response exercise Wednesday at the Capitol in Jefferson City, a Monday press from the Missouri Department of Public Safety says.

The release says the exercise has been planned for months and is not related to last week’s incident where a suspicious package was received by Secretary of State’s Office.

The exercise is expected to be completed by noon and will take place in areas inside and outside the building, the statement says. Business will be conducted as normal, but traffic could be impacted, the release says.

Signs will be posted to let those in the area know that the training is in progress, the release says.

The training will involve law enforcement, first, medical and emergency management personnel, the release says.
