JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 3/4/24: The fire department says the fire was accidental and started after a charcoal fire spread to other combustible materials.

ORIGINAL: No injuries are reported in a Jefferson City house fire, although a family is now displaced.

Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 900 block of Cari Ann Drive around 4 p.m. Saturday. According to a news release, firefighters arrived to the sight of heavy fire coming from the two-story house.

All the occupants, two adults and three children, were outside when firefighters arrived, according to the release. Although they are not hurt, the family is now displaced and being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, although the home sustained major damage throughout.

A cause of the fire is not known at this time, but Jefferson City Fire reminds everyone to never leave open flame cooking appliances unattended.
