Miller County woman hurt after being hit by SUV

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Miller County woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by an SUV on Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson City.

Police say they were called to the scene on East McCarty Street near Jefferson Street at about 4:20 p.m. Cindy Barnett, 64, of Olean, was crossing McCarty Street without a crosswalk or traffic signal when she was hit, the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release.

Barnett walked in front of a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Terry Spieler, 66, of Jefferson City, as the SUV was turning out of a private drive, police say. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Columbia hospital, where she was stable Wednesday, the release says.

Traffic was diverted for about 30 minutes during the crash.
