Metal shelf in road causes Jefferson City pileup

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A three-vehicle crash restricted traffic for nearly an hour Tuesday morning on a major Jefferson City highway.

Police were sent to the 900 block of Highway 54/63 eastbound at about 8:15 a.m. for a three-vehicle crash. Only minor injuries were reported in the pileup involving a pickup, a small SUV and a compact car, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.

The crash happened when the SUV slowed down to avoid a metal shelf in the road, police say.

A passenger in the car was taken to a hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Traffic was restricted for about 50 minutes.
