Another arrest made in relation to McClung Park shooting
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Another man has been arrested and charged in relation to an Oct. 5 shooting at McClung Park in Jefferson City.
Syvonn Byrd, 19, of Jefferson City, was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He was arrested Thursday evening and is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond, according to court records. A court date has not been set.
One witness had identified Byrd, according to the probable cause statement. The witness allegedly told police that Byrd took out a gun from his waistband, pointed it at several people at a party and shot, the statement says. Court documents say the witness’ account lined up with video recordings seen by law enforcement.
The statement says Byrd gave conflicting statements to police when he was arrested. Byrd allegedly stated he didn’t know who was involved, but changed his statement, but stated one of the victims – as described in the probable cause statement – was involved.
Byrd allegedly claimed that he didn’t know who the victim was shooting at, but later identified the other victim, the statement says. The statement also says Byrd told law enforcement that he was stopped by Lincoln University police that, who searched his vehicle and found. LUPD told Jefferson City police that they did not make a traffic stop on Byrd the day of the shooting, the statement says.
LUPD told JCPD that Byrd was on a “trespassing” list, the statement says.
Four other people were charged in a shooting that injured two, according to previous reporting. One of the injured people -- Dayjuan L. Crossland -- was accused of pulling a gun and firing during an argument at a party with about 100 people at McClung Park. Police found at three least calibers of ammunition at the park.
Crossland, of Jefferson City, has been charged with accessory to first-degree assault, accessory to aiding or abetting a shooting and armed criminal action. An arraignment was set for 9 am. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Cole County Circuit Court.
Denise Ann Word, of Jefferson City, has been charged with accessory to first-degree assault, accessory to aiding or abetting a shooting and armed criminal action. An arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Cole County Circuit Court.
Raymond D. White-Murry, of Holts Summit, has been charged with aiding or abetting a shooting and armed criminal action. An arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4.
Laquan L. Boose was also charged last month with four felonies: Accessory to first-degree assault, accessory to unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and accessory to resisting arrest, according to court records.
Police were called to the park after dispatchers received multiple reports of gunshots. Officers found a party with about 100 people, according to a probable cause statement. They also found casings from three different calibers of bullets, indicating multiple shooters.
