No injuries reported in Jefferson City warehouse fire
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
No injuries were reported after a fire broke out Tuesday at Culligan of Jefferson City.
Jefferson City Assistant Fire Chief Jay Niemeyer said the fire started due to a bird’s nest inside the flue of a heater.
Firefighters found fire in the wall at the back of the building and spread to the attic of the warehouse, a Tuesday night press release from JCPD said. The release stated that firefighters removed "significant sections of the back wall to make access to the fire. Minor damage was reported, though a figure was not available.
"Before you turn on your heat appliances in the winter, it should be checked by a trained service technician to ensure there aren't major issues with the appliance before you turn it on that can cause a fire like this," Niemeyer said at the scene.
Niemeyer later said in a press release that the cause of the fire was from a faulty exhaust pipe on a heating appliance. The faulty pipe caused the wood and insulation around the exhaust to catch on fire and then the fire extended inside of the wall. Â
East McCarty Street was blocked off while the fire was put out, according to the release.
