One person died during a shooting in Jefferson City on Saturday

The death of a 27-year-old Jefferson City resident is under investigation by the Jefferson City Police Department.

A news release from the department said officers responded to a disturbance call of shots fired near Broadway and Atchison Streets Saturday afternoon. Officers found the victim with gunshot wounds and said they could not resuscitate the victim.

The release added a suspect was later found near the scene and taken into custody. The identities of the victim and suspect aren’t being released by the department at this time.

In 2022, ABC 17 News reported on at least three other shootings in the Jefferson City area. One shooting left two women hurt, another shooting left one man hurt, and another that left two people dead.
