Hackers might have accessed some Capital Region Medical Center patients' data in a breach last month, the health care provider said Wednesday.

"We are in the process of reviewing files to determine whose and what specific information was accessed and will notify any individuals in accordance with applicable law," Capital Region said in a news release.

The health care provider took its network down Dec. 17 after noticing suspicious activity, Capital Region said previously. Phones and email were down for several days, but Capital Region said Wednesday that it is making progress restoring its network systems.

Capital Region's website, including access to patient records and bill-paying tools, was back online Wednesday.

Capital Region said employees and patients should review their financial statements for suspicious activity. The hospital said it will provide updates about the situation on its website.
