Two people had moderate injuries after a single-vehicle crash Friday in Jefferson City.

The crash happened in the 1700 block of Highway 50/63 at about 2:30 p.m., the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release. Benjamin Weaver, 65, was driving a 2014 Jeep Patriot westbound when the vehicle went off the road and hit a rock bluff with the passenger side of its front end, police said.

Weaver was taken by ambulance to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. His passenger, 29-year-old Athena Welch, was extricated from the vehicle and flown to University Hospital, police said. Both are from Jefferson City.

Welch was in serious condition Friday. Weaver was in fair condition. They were both wearing seat belts, police said.
