Jefferson City man accused of having stolen gun

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man faces several charges in Cole County after an altercation was reported near downtown Jefferson City.

Terry Simms, 39, of Jefferson City was accused of displaying a gun during a verbal argument at the 700 block of Madison Street on Wednesday.

Jefferson City officers with the department's Community Action Team were in the area when the alleged incident happened. Court documents say officers demanded Simms and another person get on the ground. Officers said the other person dropped a gun after the order.

A search showed the gun was stolen out of Jefferson City. Officers said the other person told authorities Simms tried to hand off the gun when they were ordered onto the ground.

Simms faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property and a count of fourth-degree assault. Online court documents show he's expected in court on Dec. 16.
