No update into personnel issues within Fayette Police Department; MSHP has not received request from city

FAYETTE, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Fayette has not given an update into the personnel issues within its police department, over a month after police evidence was found in a dumpster at a local grocery store.

In December, the city's Police Chief David Ford announced in a press release that the city had revised its old policy. The old policy required drugs to be removed from evidence bags, put in the dumpster and sprayed with liquid, which Ford said was insufficient.

The release also stated that the city was planning to look into personnel issues involved. Ford stated Mayor Jeremy Dawson reached out to the Missouri State Highway Patrol to review the incident.

However, MSHP Lt. Eric Brown told ABC 17 News on Tuesday night that the department had not received a request from the city.

The Board of Aldermen met Tuesday night, where the incident was not discussed. Ford declined to comment regarding the update into personnel issues, or the city's communication with MSHP following the meeting. Ford claimed those questions would need to go through Dawson.

ABC 17 News reached out to Dawson, who was not in attendance at the meeting.

Residents who attended the meeting stated the city has not communicated about the incident. Some also said they were not surprised the matter was not discussed during Tuesday night's meeting, and want more accountability from the city.
