COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

MU Health Care announced in a Thursday afternoon press release that a “health care team member” tested positive for tuberculosis.

MU Health is working with state and county health officials to address risks to patients and staff and has activated an infection control plan, the release states.

The health care team member with tuberculosis disease is isolated from patients, visitors and staff.

“Together with our public health partners we are following procedures established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, beginning with isolating the active case from further exposures and identifying those persons who were potentially exposed,” Dr. Stevan Whitt, MU Health Care chief medical officer, said in the release. “We are confident that we will identify and manage the risks to patients and staff who may have come into close contact with this health care provider.”

MU Health will initiate contact tracing, the release states. Those identified to be at risk will be contacted and offered testing.
