Fulton City Council meets for first time since city administrator was fired

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Fulton City Council met on Tuesday for the first time since Renee Tyler was fired from the city administrator position Friday.

Tyler's firing came during a special session held on Friday by City Council members.

Tyler's firing was not mentioned during the meeting though at the end of the meeting members did call to move to an executive session to discuss, 'legal actions, and personnel issues.'

Tyler said that she is still in shock and she still does not know why she was fired. However, she did say she is grateful for the community's ongoing support.

"I came to the city of Fulton because of the community, and it has been a pleasure to serve the community," Tyler said. "I do not regret coming here, you know, I was hoping to have the opportunity to be here and to have, you know, a chance to participate and make more things happen, and just serve. I know that the employees are great people, and it's just, you know, it's been a pleasure."

The City stated in a news release on Monday that Courtney Doyle was appointed as the interim during the same meeting.

The City has not yet given a reason for Tyler's termination. Tyler had held the position since her appointment in 2022.

The executive order signed by Mayor Steve Myers states Tyler's termination was effective immediately. The search for Tyler’s permanent replacement has not started, according to City officials.

The motion to fire Tyler was offered by Ward 1 Councilwoman Valerie Sebacher and was seconded by Ward 4 Councilwoman Lauren Nelson. According to City records, five members voted in favor while three others chose to abstain from voting.

The City's agenda did not mention Tylers' termination.

The council at its meeting approved the appointment of Greg Newsom to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a four-year term. The council also approved a request for Fulton Parks and Recreation requesting approval for a 2023 summer concert series at Veteran’s Park.
