Chief Myers: Fulton police shooting suspect dies

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
Fulton police chief Steve Myers said Wednesday the suspect from Monday's police-involved shooting has died.
Myers told ABC 17 News that he heard from investigators that the suspect died at a Columbia hospital. He declined to give the name or age of the suspect. Myers said the officer who shot the suspect is still on administrative leave.
ABC 17 News spoke with Michael Netherton Sr. who says his son, Cody McCaulou, was the victim of the shooting.
Netherton said McCaulou's fiance and mother were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
He also said they took McCaulou off of life support Tuesday night.
"I was there with him. He was brain dead when they put the first tube in him. He did have some brain response when they put the second tube in him," Netherton said.
He said doctors were not able to get bullet fragments out of his son's brain which caused swelling.
"I sat there and had my hand on his heart. I was sitting there holding him and we were so torn up," he said.
Authorities have not said what precipitated a Fulton police officer shooting at a person Monday behind McIntire Elementary School. The suspect was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the case. A patrol spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for information late Wednesday afternoon.
