2 injured in Osage Beach fire

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two people were brought to an area hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire occurred Tuesday morning at a residence in Osage Beach, the Osage Beach Fire Protection District wrote in a press release.

The district wrote that the fire is under investigation “but it appears that it started in the front room near an electrical outlet that had an extension cord plugged in and running to the outside.”

“This family was incredibly fortunate,” Fire Chief Paul Berardi was quoted in the release. “Often an early morning residential fire without working smoke detectors, results in a much graver outcome. We are thankful this was not the case, but it should remind all of us to install smoke detectors and regularly ensure they are working.”

Four family members were home at the time of the fire and two teens were alerted about the fire after their father shouted to evacuate the building at around 3 a.m., the release indicates.
