MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A fire that apparently started on a deck caused "significant" damage early Friday to a Mexico, Missouri, duplex, authorities say.

Firefighters were called to a duplex on Huntington Court at about 2:30 a.m. and found flames going through the roof of the building when they arrived, according to a Mexico Department of Public Safety news release. They extinguished the fire but the back of the duplex had major fire damage, with the rest of the building sustaining smoke and water damage, the department said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Friday but firefighters believe it started on the back deck of one of the duplex units. No one was injured.
