Fire destroys two buildings in downtown Boonville, damages others

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boonville firefighters remained at the scene of a large fire late Monday morning putting out hot spots after two buildings suffered massive damage.

Boonville Fire Chief Tim Carmichael said the department was called to the 310 block of Main Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday for reports of smoke.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F posted photos of the fire to Twitter. Troopers said the fire happened at a pawn shop in the downtown area.

Carmichael said no one was injured in the fire, but two buildings were a total loss. He said Boonville brought in help from the Cooper County Fire Protection District and Columbia Fire Department to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.

Two other buildings have heavy water and smoke damage, Carmichael said.

Firefighters went into the building at first but were forced out by the intense heat, Carmichael said. He said the front blew out of a building after firefighters left.

The cause of the fire was unknown at this time, Carmichael said.

The Columbia Fire Department said one of its ladder trucks provided mutual aid.
