The Boone County Fire Protection says a 68-year-old Columbia man, Charles D. Tolentino, was killed as a result of a Hallsville house fire on Jan. 5.

HALLSVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County firefighters say a Hallsville man has died after a house fire late Tuesday night.

A release from the Boone County Fire Protection District said a man was found unresponsive in a back hallway on the upper level of the residence on 10100 N. Hague Rd.

Firefighters did not include the name of the man in the release.

Firefighters said Tuesday night that the man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The release said he was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after being taken there.

Crews arrived just after 10 p.m. and said the fire was coming out of the front of the house. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, according to the release.

The residence had moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage.

Firefighters said it's unclear what caused the fire and that the State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating it.
