One person dead after early-morning Phelps County fire

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mid-Missouri firefighters say at least one person was killed after a fire was reported in Phelps County early Monday morning.

Rolla Rural Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a fire at the 18000 block of South US Highway 63 at 5:21 a.m. Crews said 90% of the residence was involved in the fire when authorities arrived.

Two firefighters entered the home and found the body inside. The state fire marshal was called to investigate. Firefighters said no foul play is expected.

Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District and St. Jame Fire Protection District firefighters assisted crews with the fire.
