COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The enrollment deadline for the University of Missouri System has been extended to May 15, according to a Thursday release from the university.

UM announced the extension because of changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the release states. Distribution of financial aid offers for enrolling students is expected to begin in late April, the release says. Returning students should continue to expect their financial aid offers in June.

The deadline to enroll is typically May 1, and the UM system – which includes campuses at Columbia, St. Louis, Kansas City and Rolla – have received 10,113 enrollment confirmations as of March 25 for Fall 2024 enrollment, the release says. That’s a more than 10% increase from last year, the release says.

According to a report from CNN earlier this week, tax data transferred from the IRS has impacted about 1 million FAFSA applicants. The report states colleges received inaccurate information about some families’ finances after those applicants submitted the FAFSA to the Department of Education.

Delays have occurred from glitches and other errors – such as calculation errors – have occurred after an updated version of the financial aid form was released. Several universities around the country have announced deadline extensions as a result.
