Changes to roadways due to University of Missouri move-in

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Saturday officially kicked off move in for students at the University of Missouri leading to multiple two-way roads being converted into one-ways.

Most students will be moving in on Wednesday and Thursday, but some have already began for various reasons, mostly due to sorority recruitment.

From 8:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. on move in days, barricades will be put up to help direct traffic for incoming students and their families.

The university sent out an email stating which roadways will be affected during these timeframes.

  • Virginia Avenue will be one-way going north between Lake Street and Rollins Street.
  • Rollins Street will be one-way going west between Virginia Avenue and Hitt Street.
  • Rollins Street will be one-way going east between Virginia Avenue and College Avenue.
  • Hitt Street will be one-way going south between Rollins Street and Lake Street.
  • Kentucky will be one-way going west between Tiger Avenue and Curtis Avenue.
  • 4th Street will be one-way going south between Stewart Road and Conley Avenue.
  • Conley Avenue will be one-way going east between Fourth Street and Fifth Street.

The email also states to "plan for slow traffic" along Hospital Drive near College Avenue, College Avenue to Ashland Road and Tiger Avenue near Stadium Boulevard.

The university enacted these one-way roads in order to create a safe and easier move-in process, which according to freshman students like Alexa Reinken, they seems to be helping.

"It honestly made it way easier," said Reinken. "It was way more convienient to have to drive down then get caught up in the traffic so it worked out better."

But for some it was difficult to navigate at first.

"The one lane was just like difficult to figure out how to come in but once you get to the general area it got better," said incoming freshman Kayla Hernandez.

Last year the University of Missouri admitted over 5,000 freshman for the fall semester of 2022. They are expecting the same amount of students for the 2023 fall semester
