Plan to tear down Mizzou North gets curators’ approval

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri Board of Curators approved a $10 million plan Wednesday to demolish Mizzou North.

University leaders say the building would need more than $55 million of work. Instead, the university will use campus funds to demolish it. The project will include removing any hazardous materials before the demolition. The project is slated for completion by January 2024.

The building has been empty since last year. Before Mizzou North it was the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.

The university said it hopes to recycle at least 50% of the non-hazardous material taken from the building.

MU had considered selling the vacant building but decided to tear it down instead. The university hasn’t said what it plans for the property.
