COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A trial in a former Mizzou football assistant coach's lawsuit against the university has been canceled after the two sides reached a settlement, according to court records.

Derek Dooley, the team's former offensive coordinator, sued the University of Missouri System in January 2021 alleging the university didn't pay him what he was owed under his contract.

The university hired Dooley in 2018 as offensive coordinator. He originally agreed to a $900,000 yearly salary lasting until 2022, but the school upped the payment in March 2019 to $925,000. The school let Dooley go in December of that same year, along with head coach Barry Odom.

A clause in Dooley's contract requires the school to pay out the rest of the money owed to him under the agreement in monthly installments, "but in no event to exceed 12 months." Dooley's lawsuit said the school had not made such payments, even after Dooley requested them.

The parties reached the settlement last month, according to online court records. Details of the settlement were not available Thursday. ABC 17 News has filed an open records request seeking more information from the UM System.

A lawyer for Dooley did not respond to a request for comment.

The case had been scheduled for trial next week.
