JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City School District has hired Malissa Pistel as the next principal of Callaway Hills Elementary.

“Callaway Hills Elementary is a special place where we have an incredibly hard-working staff who show up every day to do what is best for our kids,” said Malissa Pistel in a release. “I witness this firsthand on a daily basis, and I am so proud of the growth our staff and students have demonstrated in recent years. I believe my experience as a classroom teacher, principal of a Title I school, and most recently as an instructional coach has prepared me to be the best leader I can be for Callaway Hills.”

Pistel succeeds Todd Shalz who has been named as the principal at Belair Elementary.

“During her time with JC Schools, Malissa Pistel has demonstrated an ability to collaborate with students, teachers, support staff, and parents,” said JC Schools Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Heather Beaulieu in a release. “She has made a positive impact at Callaway Hills first as a classroom teacher and most recently as the instructional coach. Malissa’s vision for continuous learning and growth will make her a great addition to the elementary administrative team.”

Pistel began her education career in 1995 as a fifth-grade teacher for Plato R-V Schools. From 2009 to 2013 Pistel was the principal for New Franklin Elementary School. Pistel joined the JC Schools team in 2013 where she taught fifth grade at Moreau Heights and Callaway Hills prior to being promoted to the Callaway Hills instructional coach in 2016.
