Hallsville school board votes down 4-day school week proposal
HALLSVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Hallsville Board of Education voted 4-3 to reject a proposal to move to a four-day school week for the 2020-2021 school year during a special session on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for the school district said on Thursday that the school board could consider the idea in the future.
"Right now, (board members) are still seeking answers on the potential academic impact of our students as well as the potential impact of our high-risk, and free and reduced students," Hallsville communications director Kari Yeagy-Swofford said.
Yeagy-Swofford also said the school board is committed to looking for ways to retain and recruit teachers and staff members.
Recently, Sturgeon R-V and New Bloomfield R-III both approved plans to have four-day school weeks for the upcoming school year. District leaders cited the four-day week being used as a recruitment tool for teachers.
