Columbia Board of Education president files for reelection
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Board of Education President Suzette Waters has filed for reelection.
Waters was first elected to the Board in 2022. She joins Erica Dickson and Ken Rice in the race. Candidate filing also closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 31.
In her press release announcing her reelection bid, she reaffirmed her opposition to charter schools in Boone County. In April, Waters sent a letter to Columbia Public Schools employees, urging them to voice their opposition to a bill in state legislature that allowed charter schools to operate in Columbia.
Waters also said in her release that she has asked for more transparency from the board, which led to committee meetings to be recorded and livestreamed.
Waters has a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is a graduate of Columbia Publics Schools, according to her biography on CPS’ website. She works as a dental hygienist, her bio says.
