Lincoln University updating policies to ‘reflect government guidance’
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Lincoln University is updating its rules and regulations to reflect government guidance, according to university officials.
In a statement Thursday, Lincoln University President John Moseley said that the school will not need to make “significant adjustments” to comply with public policy changes. The statement did not say what exact changes were made.
Moseley referenced continued dialogue nationwide and in Missouri around efforts to get rid of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
"As a public institution that relies on federal and state funding, Lincoln is among thousands of schools
required to ensure our policies reflect directives from Washington, D.C. and Jefferson City," Moseley said.
Moseley said the university remains committed to its values of excellence and opportunity for all students, regardless of their background. Moseley also said the university will continue to foster a sense of belonging and partner with minority- and women-owned businesses.
The statement came after the Board of Curators held a special meeting on Feb. 25. According to meeting documents, the board approved “modifications” to five sections of the university’s rules and regulations. The meeting documents did not specify what those modifications are.
Diversity practices have been criticized by Republican politicians in recent years, with President Donald Trump seeking to get rid of federal programs.
Gov. Mike Kehoe signed an executive order last month that directed Missouri state agencies to eliminate DEI initiatives.
In July, the University of Missouri in Columbia dismantled its diversity division.
