COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Fayette police investigated a report of a threat against the local public school district and determined the threat was not legitimate, the district said Thursday.

Fayette School District administrators sent text messages to families Thursday morning telling them police had investigated a reported threat and determined there was no danger. A second text read that police would be at the campus Thursday morning to help ensure safety.

State officials say 160 tips about threats to kill and 78 school shooting threat tips were shared with Missouri's Courage2Report hotline last year.
