COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Several Mid-Missouri schools have called off Thursday classes as snow continues to fall on roads that are already covered or partially covered.

Columbia Public Schools has called off in-person and virtual classes for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Southern Boone was the largest district to call off classes by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Other districts that canceled their Thursday sessions include Versailles, Rolla and St. Elizabeth. Other districts such as Linn and Fatima will have classes online-only Thursday.

Father Tolton Catholic High School is closed all week because of frozen water lines.

Dozens of districts have missed multiple days over the past two weeks as the area has endured multiple rounds of snowfall and a streak of extreme cold. More snow began falling on the several inches already on the ground Wednesday morning and was still falling mid-afternoon.

Local road crews are primarily focused on the busiest roads, trying to keep up on those streets against the continuing snow. The Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map showed conditions deteriorating on some state highways Wednesday afternoon.

The map showed Highway 63 as covered from Columbia south. Interstate 70 was mostly clear to partly covered throughout Mid-Missouri.
