SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Sedalia police arrested a man after a 5-year-old was shot on the 1600 block of West 9th in Sedalia on Friday afternoon.

While officers were responding to the residence, the child’s parents transported them by personal vehicle to Bothwell Regional Health Center. The victim was treated at Bothwell Hospital then flown to Kansas City for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators responded to the emergency room while patrol officers went to the residence. After several interviews and an extensive investigation, it appears the suspect unintentionally fired a weapon striking the child.

Investigators arrested 36-year-old Byron A. Guider.

Charges are expected to be filed but haven't yet.
