Man arrested after deadly shooting in Benton County

BENTON COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 28-year-old died Sunday after a shooting in Benton County.

According to a Facebook post from the Benton County Sheriff's Office, a 911 caller reported a man who had been shot got into the back seat of his truck around 4:50 a.m. Sunday at the end of Clearwater Road near Warsaw.

The victim, Lance Lyman, reportedly yelled at the driver to leave the area as a gunman continued to shoot at the vehicle.

The sheriff's office said the driver transported Lyman to the Warsaw Ambulance Base. Lyman died before emergency crews were able to take him to a hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team assisted deputies at the scene and surrounded the home of the suspected shooter, 24-year-old John Morino.

In the Facebook post, the sheriff's office said initial information from witnesses led authorities to believe Lyman was shot when he tried to stop Morino while he was assaulting a woman.

The SWAT team arrested Morino for his alleged involvement in the shooting. The sheriff's office said he is currently being held in the Benton County Jail awaiting charges.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call dispatchers at (660) 438-5252. The investigation is ongoing.
