1 hurt, 2 arrested in Thursday night Jefferson City shooting
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Cole County prosecutors charged two men in connection with a shooting in Jefferson City late Thursday night.
Paul Mcelrath and Markevious Fuller face a felony count each of unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the shooting.
A news release from Police Department spokesman Lt. David Williams said officers received multiple reports of shots fired at 1425 Missouri Blvd. around 9:30 p.m.
Court documents say both men had talked about meeting at a McDonald's restaurant in the area to fight. Police say Mcelrath and Fuller started shooting at each other after arriving at the location.
Police say 13 shell casings were recovered at the scene. Officer say Mcelrath admitted to shooting at Fuller until he had no more bullets -- 11 times. Fuller allegedly told police that he fired two shots back.
Both men said in the court documents they drove away from the shooting scene.
A caller told police people were firing at each other in the parking lot and that one had been shot. The caller gave police descriptions of the vehicles leaving the scene.
At 9:40 p.m., Lincoln University police received a call that one of the vehicles involved in the shooting was on the university's campus. Police found it and noticed it had been shot multiple times.
Fuller's probable cause statement said he was arrested after heading back to a residence on Taylor Street. Police say Fuller hid his gun in the woods but it was later recovered.
Police say Mcelrath had driven to St. Louis after the shooting. The release said he agreed to come back to Jefferson City and admitted to being involved with the shooting. Mcelrath told investigators that he got rid of the gun after the shooting.
Mcelrath told police a round hit him in the back. Officers say the shot went through the trunk, the backseats and struck him. The documents said he had minor injuries from the shot.
Police say both men have been booked in the Cole County Jail.
