Columbia man accused of deadly Douglass Park shooting now arrested
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The man accused of murder in a deadly shooting at Douglass Park on Aug. 25 has been arrested.
Boone County Jail records said Rickey Lee Murry, 48, has been arrested more than a week after the shooting that killed Corey Jordan.
Court records say Murry faces a count each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action connected to the killing.
Police were called to the park in the central part of the city around 8 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
Officers said around 100 people were around the area, some applying pressure to Jordan's wounds. Jordan was taken to the hospital where he later died.
A witness allegedly told police that Murry was "creeping around and hiding behind trees and vehicles" before getting into a confrontation with Jordan and shooting him, according to Murry's probable cause statement.
The court document said others spoke to Murry on the phone after the shooting and said that he admitted to the crime.
As of Thursday morning, Murry was held in jail custody without bond.
A memo filed in the 13th Circuit Court said Murry has been convicted of assault, illegal gun possession, felony stealing and domestic assault. It included that he's on probation for failing to pay child support.
