Sheriff’s Department: Deputy fires at car after man crashes into patrol vehicle

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County Sheriff's deputy fired at a car outside the Midway truck stop Thursday morning after a man allegedly crashed into the patrol vehicle and drove from the scene.

According to a release on the sheriff's department Facebook page, the deputy located a possible stolen vehicle at the truck stop around 8:41 a.m.

The deputy spoke with the driver, who was listed as an uncooperative white male. The man backed up a dark blue Dodge Challenger bearing Texas registration and crashed into the deputy's vehicle, the post said.

Authorities said the deputy fired at the vehicle before it drove from the scene. The post didn't list the car's direction of travel.

As of Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's department said the vehicle has not been found.

The highway patrol was called in to investigate the shooting, the release said.

The post said the deputy was not hurt in the incident. It's unclear if the man driving the other vehicle was shot.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-8477.
